Essential Two-Wheeler Maintenance: Choosing the Right Spare Parts
A practical guide to choosing the right brake pads, chains, sprockets, and filters for your motorcycle or scooter.
Essential Two-Wheeler Maintenance: Choosing the Right Spare Parts
Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your two-wheeler running smoothly, safely, and efficiently on daily commutes. Here are the core components every rider should monitor:
1. Brake Pads & Brake Shoes
Brakes are your vehicle’s most critical safety system.
- Inspection: Check brake pad thickness every 3,000 to 5,000 km.
- Signs of Wear: Squealing noises, reduced braking bite, or a spongy lever feel.
- Replacement: Always choose OEM or certified replacement pads designed for your specific bike model.
2. Chain & Sprocket Set
Your chain transfers power from the engine to the rear wheel.
- Cleaning & Lubrication: Clean and lube your chain every 500–800 km, especially during monsoon or dusty conditions.
- Tension: Ensure proper chain slack according to manufacturer specifications.
- Replacement: Always replace the front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain as a complete set to prevent uneven wear.
3. Air and Oil Filters
Clean filters keep your engine breathing freely and oil circulating cleanly.
- Air Filter: Inspect regularly and replace during scheduled servicing. A clogged air filter reduces fuel mileage and throttle response.
- Oil Filter: Always replace the oil filter during every engine oil change.
